In Year 1, students begin to have a greater understanding of English and Maths within their weekly 2-hour lessons. We want each child to be able to reach their potential in these lessons and provide positive feedback and rewards for possibly challenging areas.

At this age, we will develop their sentence writing, grammar and number usage.

Class sizes are a maximum of 6 students with each group being led by a tutor and a mentor on hand to help out. As a result, we will always provide a 1:3 ratio with our younger students in order to get their standard as high as possible. The students learn through a variety of group and independent activities keeping the lessons fun and engaging.

Lessons follow the National Curriculum while working one step ahead to ensure that our students can raise their hands to answer questions in school with confidence.

When students successfully complete a task, they are enthusiastic about their work, especially if they have earned a prize. Students enjoy their class and always leave wanting to learn more. A positive and uplifting environment builds a healthy foundation for learning.

ENGLISH

➼ Supporting handwriting and letter formation including capital letters and full stops.

➼ Spelling using segmentation.

➼ Writing simple sentences.

MATHS

➼ Count out loud to 100 and back, starting from a given number.

➼ Use number facts (number bonds to 10) to solve problems.

➼ Read and write numbers to 20 and much more.

All lessons take place at the Jacqui Robinson Education Centre at 2 hour sessions within the times below:

Mondays 4:00pm - 6:00pm

Tuesdays 4:00pm - 8:00pm

Wednesdays 4:00pm - 8:00pm

Thursdays 4:00pm - 8:00pm

Fridays 4:00pm - 8:00pm

Saturdays 8:00am - 4:00pm

Sundays 9:45am - 12:15pm

We are in Colchester, 2 miles from Colchester town centre, 15 miles from Clacton, 5 minutes from the A12 and A120 giving access from Harwich, Earls Colne, Halstead, Braintree and Manningtree. We are 20 minutes from Witham; 30 minutes from Ipswich; 35 minutes from Chelmsford and 45 minutes from Brentwood. We are 1 hour and 20 minutes from Norwich.
